FRIDAY FROTHIES – DEEDS BREWING DEREGULATE TAPIOCA HAZY PALE ALE

FROTHY REVIEW

The frothy in the glass today was developed by the discovery of a rare batch of BRU-1 hops in the brewery, combined to full effect with Eclipse and Cita Cryo hops, Deeds Brewing has created a punchy, crushable little number in their Deregulate Tapioca Hazy Pale.

So, what does this have to do with Tapioca and its deregulation? Honestly, nothing. The Tapioca threw us a bit, but makes literal sense, as in it’s a thickening agent that perhaps was left to do its thing! In any case we were game to try this hazy pale.

Pouring a modestly cloudy, light buttery-pineapple colour, the aroma is tropical and intriguing. It is hazy (obviously!) slightly spicy, dry, yet with refreshing tropical notes of pineapple and a slight lemon kicker, a bit like lemon curd, that smooths out the finish. On the palate, this beer has a smooth, slightly textural mouthfeel that is well rounded and yet also lively. The upfront bitterness rewards and the citrus and spice make this a really juicy, accessible beer for anyone.

FROTHY FOOD PAIRING

Try the Deregulate Tapioca with…chili crisps!

Deeds Brewing Deregulate Tapioca Hazy Pale’s citrusy curd-like notes, work well to mellow the chili spice of the chips, and make for a moreish pairing for nibbles. Careful though, remember to leave room for dinner!
