TASTING NOTES

This one is a full bodied tropical stout made using lager yeast. Silky chocolate and coffee flavours are topped off by rum and raisin notes for a smooth finish with a sweet back note. Don’t be fooled by the style name, this is not a fruitier version of your typical stout. Tropical stouts use different grains and sugars than typical stouts and use lager yeast rather than pale ale yeast. It’s characterised by a fuller-bodied, less bitter, more smooth roast character.

BREWERY SNAPSHOT

Based in Marrickville, Philter’s founders met when Stef moved in across the road from Mick. Philter was born during a conversation over one of the countless beers they’ve shared. The boys each bring a particular skillset to the brew. Mick is a specialist in the skate and surf rag trade, most recently as GM of O’Neil Australia. Stef is a beer lover and brand-expert, having worked for the past decade in beer, cider and spirits sales and marketing including stints at Lion and Beam Suntory.

Philter have won a plethora of awards including, Champion Pale Ale for their launch XPA from the 2017 Craft Beer Awards in Adelaide. Surpassing some of the biggest brews in the industry, Philter quickly became a contender in the Australian beer game.
