TASTING NOTES

Two Birds Fruit Tang Sour, 375ml Can, ABV 3.8%
Tropical fruits are good sweet, but they’re even better tart. Fruit Tang Clan is a refreshing, fruity kettle sour with tasty hints of mango, guava and pineapple in every mouthful.

Two Birds Passion Victim Summer Ale, 330ml Can, ABV 5%
Tropical fruit hop trio of Amarillo, mosaic and galaxy with added passionfruit puree. Pale and hazy passionfruit summer ale perfect for a hot day.

Two Birds Brewing Lemon Meringue PIEPA, 375ml Can, ABV 6.3%
I’m filled with nitro, so give them a shake and pour like you’ve got no time to waste. Brewed using a bumper crop from Brewer Mat’s lemon tree, this Oat Cream IPA has all the trimmings of the perfect Lemon Meringue Pie. Intense lemon from fresh peel & citrusy hops, a rich yellow filling and the crème de la crème – a pillowy, smooth top.

Two Birds Pale Ale, 330ml Can, ABV 5%
Our pale is like your favourite pair of jeans. The perfect fit for every occasion. But like every Two Birds Brew, this pale is not without a twist. Two types of oats create a hazy & super pale beer with a smooth, silky mouthfeel, while Australian & US hops offer up notes of pine, passionfruit & pineapple.

About Two Birds Brewing

Two birds brewing was founded by, you guessed it, two birds! Not the feathered kind of course, but the lovely lady duo of Jayne Lewis and Danielle Allen. A friendship that began in Western Australia over 16 years ago, budded into something beautiful after a trip to the West Coast USA in 2010. Their shared love for the finer things in life saw them visit breweries, wineries, and dine at some world-renowned restaurants. While enjoying the delights on offer, plans emerged to start their own brewing company. Their dream to run their own business soon became a reality as they formed Australia’s first female craft brewery in 2011, launching their first and signature beer, Golden Ale. 2012 saw the release of the award winning Sunset Ale and Two Birds were set to take flight. Their search to open a brew house took them to Melbourne’s inner west in the old industrial suburb of Spotswood. Nestled amongst giant industrial structures like the winding west gate bridge, soaring silos and seemingly endless chimneys, is the old Spotswood pumping station, which was to become Two Birds Brewery. Inside this non-descript brick bunker, lies another world, adorned with colourful murals and stainless steel pipes. You feel like you really become part of the birds brewing process in the aptly named, “the nest”. The branding is colourful with flashes of cheek, just like the two birds themselves. Their mantra doesn’t follow the often-extreme views of the typical craft brewer, with their beers reflecting “balance and approachability”, something that appeals to a wider crowd and the budding craft-beer drinkers.

The Two Birds beer range may have begun with a single beer back in 2011, but the birds have been busy building their nest, now boasting 12 taps, serving up seasonal creations, cider and their 5 core beers. Their Pale Ale is like your favourite pair of jeans – the perfect fit for all occasions. Two types of oats create a hazy, yet super pale beer with a smooth and silky mouthfeel, while a blend of Aussie and US hops delivers the fruit bowl sensation you expect with this type of beer. The Sunset Ale is an amber ale that gets its name from the spectacular Western Australian sunsets. Paired perfectly with sunset viewings, this beer is a complex blend of 9 different malts creating a rich and inviting beer. Passion Victim Summer Ale is pale and hazy like a balmy arvo and combines the tropical trio of hops, Amarillo, Mosaic and Galaxy. The award winning Taco Cerveza, a wheat beer, is exactly as the name says, a taco fiesta of flavour. Brewed with the addition of corn, coriander and fresh lime, it’s a hoppy, fruity and zesty beer like no other. And of course there is the IPA, made with real passionfruit and mango puree, its perfectly crafted to tick all the craft beer boxes.

It was only going to be a matter of time before these birds took to the trees and turned their hands from grain to fruit. Expanding on their beer range, their perfectly balanced apple cider is brewed in house from locally sourced, 100% Australian apples. But these birds weren’t happy to nest in only apple trees, spreading their wings to the world of hard seltzers. One of the first Aussie brewed seltzers, Chirpy, contains only a few clean ingredients, no added sugar and boasts only 65 calories. Coming in a delicious watermelon chirpy or mango chirpy, these brews are the perfect choice for the calorie conscious or the non-beer drinkers. The wide range of brews stems from Jayne’s multi talented past, having started in wine making in Western Australia, to dabbling in ciders at little creatures before polishing off her skills with some beer education at Matilda Bay and Mountain Goat Breweries.

Two birds may be a brewing company, but their menu is somewhat brilliant, designed to pair with particular brews. Comprising share platters of chicken tenders, fries with a twist and burgers to put all other burgers to shame, there really is something for everyone, including a vegan burger that would convert the most die-hard carnivores. Chef Carl has taken the pub classics and actually made them better, with creations like Carls secret dipping sauce that puts the Colonel’s 11 secret herbs and spices to shame to house made pickles that will get the most hardened tastebuds dancing.

Since their humble beginnings back in 2011, two birds brewing have expanded to include their own bottling line, having taken over the adjacent warehouse in 2017, brining all production under their own roof. Of course such an occasion needed to be celebrated with the release of a new beer.
